Sen. McCormick Unveils Regional Plan to Spur Jobs and Energy Investment in Northwest PA

The initiative seeks to promote development in economic centers within a 10-county region in Pennsylvania.

U.S. Senator Dave McCormick recently attended an event with regional business leaders and local officials to announce Power Northwest. The initiative seeks to promote development in economic centers within a 10-county region.

The launch event was held at Avalon at Buhl Country Club.

“Pennsylvania is prime for economic resilience and economic renaissance, but we need to do more to bring that opportunity right here to northwest Pennsylvania,” said Senator McCormick at the event.

Power Northwest includes business leaders from 10 counties including Erie, Butler, Beaver, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Warren, Clarion, Forest, and Crawford Counties.

Local businessmen Frank Evans and Frank Mindicino founded Power Northwest to advocate for western Pennsylvania following the announcement of $92 billion in energy and technology investments at the energy and innovation summit McCormick hosted in July.

“We know that when it comes to the economy, you can’t sit back and wait your turn,” said Evans, chairman of Power Northwest.

At the launch event, McCormick reiterated that energy and artificial intelligence represent “an enormous opportunity” for Pennsylvania, as well as defense transformation and reindustrialization and life sciences and pharmaceuticals.

Energy and artificial intelligence are expected to bring thousands of jobs to the Commonwealth and create crucial economic growth

McCormick said, “Somebody said to me the other day, I’m not sure we want to be part of this AI revolution. And I said, ‘Well, you’re going to be part of it one way or the other, because it’s happening. The question is, do you want to be in the front of it or do you want to be on the back of it?’”

McCormick emphasized that while risks to pursuing the AI revolution in western Pennsylvania exist, Power Northwest has the potential to contribute to long-term economic prosperity for future generations.

Power Northwest aims to bring together business leaders and government officials to attract investment and support job creation in the industry.
