AI Expansion Could Deliver Jobs, Investment, and Infrastructure to Pittsburgh, Philadelphia

Pennsylvania is proving to be a hotspot for artificial intelligence development.

Pennsylvania is poised for an AI boom, and with it comes the construction of data centers across the state. With an increased presence of data centers comes more jobs and economic growth for the Commonwealth.

A recent report revealed that Pennsylvania is ranked among the fastest-growing states for artificial intelligence and data centers. The state is ranked fourth in data center development, solidifying Pennsylvania’s role in the AI revolution.

The acceleration of AI and data center growth in Pennsylvania has the potential to benefit the state’s workforce and bring significant economic impacts.

In 2025, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data showed that Pennsylvania was third in the nation for job growth. Nearly one-third of states lost jobs in 2025, but Pennsylvania added more than 76,000.

The growth represents a 1.2 percent year-over-year increase for the Commonwealth. The United States nationally saw a 0.4 percent increase.

Philadelphia and Pittsburgh were ranked as two of the top U.S. metro areas for new jobs. In Pittsburgh, 13,000 jobs were created in 2025. That number stands to increase with the development of AI and data center infrastructure in the Pittsburgh region of Pennsylvania.

In July, President Trump and U.S. Senator Dave McCormick announced more than $90 billion in investments in Pennsylvania’s energy generating assets, data centers, and workforce development at the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit hosted by the senator in Pittsburgh.

“You have commitments on what it’s going to mean in terms of labor and jobs. They’re going to do that in front of the entire community, in front of the president of the United States… So I’m pretty confident they’ve been working at this, in some cases, for a long time,” said Senator McCormick.

McCormick focused on the critical investments being made in Pennsylvania and companies’ dedication to bringing more jobs to the Commonwealth.

“Today, the commonwealth is reclaiming its industrial heritage and taking its place at the forefront of the AI technological revolution,” President Trump said at the event

With increased investments in Pennsylvania and the growth in data centers and artificial intelligence developments, the state stands to see significant economic benefits and job creation.
