Man in Butler, PA Accused of Attempting to Assassinate Trump

The man is being accused of threatening to assassinate the president, kill ICE agents, and commit a mass shooting.

On Friday, federal prosecutors announced that a Butler man has been accused of threatening to assassinate President Trump, kill ICE agents, and commit a mass shooting.

Shawn Monper, 32, of Butler posted the comments under a YouTube account with the username “Mr. Satan”.

Authorities confirmed that Monper had obtained a firearms permit shortly after Trump was inaugurated in January.

In February, he began posting threatening messages online. He wrote a comment that he had been purchasing guns and “stocking up” on ammo.

Between the months of January to April, Monper posted several concerning comments online. Some called for the murder of Trump and Elon Musk, and “all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way.”

In a video about Trump, Monper said, “im going to assassinate him myself” and referred to ICE agents as “terrorist people”, saying he would “open fire” if he saw an armed agent.

In March, Monper commented, “Eventually im going to do a mass shooting.”

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a news release, “I want to applaud the outstanding and courageous investigative work of the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department, who thankfully identified and apprehended this individual before he could carry out his threats against President Trump’s life and the lives of other innocent Americans.”

She continued, “Rest assured that whenever and wherever threats of assassination or mass violence occur, this Department of Justice will find, arrest, and prosecute the suspect to the fullest extent of the law and seek the maximum appropriate punishment.”

On Wednesday, Monper was arrested by the FBI and Butler Township police. He has been detained pending preliminary and detention hearings that have been scheduled for April 14th.
