At Oakmont Bakery, the election season has taken a delicious turn with the introduction of their popular candidate cookies featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, and a new third candidate option.
Bakery manager Joshua Cooper reported, “We sold thousands this past weekend.” Priced at $2.50 each, these iced sugar cookies feature edible rice paper images of the candidates, making them a creative centerpiece for political gatherings.
This year, however, there’s a new contender in the mix: “The Sweetest Candidate,” a specialty vanilla buttercream paczki adorned with chocolate icing and retailing for $3.75. This third “candidate” offers a lighthearted alternative to the political cookies, providing a unique option for customers during the election frenzy.
“The third candidate is for fun, really. This is the first year we’ve used the paczki, and customers love it. They’re so happy they are back,” Cooper remarked, indicating that the introduction of the paczki has been met with enthusiasm.
The cookie tradition at Oakmont Bakery dates back to the early 2000s, and Cooper expressed his delight at the ongoing excitement surrounding the cookies. “People are going crazy over it. We just want to have fun, and we don’t track the sales,” he noted, emphasizing that the bakery aims to create a light-hearted experience rather than fostering competition between the cookies. “We don’t want to make a competition out of it, but customers definitely buy large quantities.”
On a recent Instagram post, the Oakmont Bakery announced they will be sharing the sales numbers which lightheartedly represent ‘votes’. “By popular demand, we have decided to stick with our tradition of sharing the current numbers to the sweet candidate poll!
