Pennsylvania launched a new license plate design commemorating America’s 250th birthday, set to roll out in honor of the nation’s upcoming celebration in 2026. Pennsylvania has not made a significant redesign of license plates in 25 years.
The newly designed plate, which will be available to motorists later this year, prominently displays the Liberty Bell, an enduring symbol of American independence, alongside a backdrop of the American flag. Governor Josh Shapiro said, “With all eyes on Pennsylvania as we prepare to host our country’s 250th birthday in 2026, our new license plates and welcome signs will celebrate the best of what the Commonwealth has to offer and show the country why Pennsylvania is the Great American Getaway and the birthplace of American freedom.”
Pennsylvania is the birthplace of our democracy and our freedom — and in 2026, we’ll celebrate America’s 250th anniversary right here in the Commonwealth where it started.

The first eight welcome signs are already installed in Adams, Bucks, Erie, Fulton, Monroe, Potter, Susquehanna, and Tioga counties. Another 29 signs will be installed across the Commonwealth in the coming months.
As America approaches this historic milestone next year, initiatives like Pennsylvania’s new license plate design are expected to ignite enthusiasm about the values that continue to shape the United States.
