The Pittsburgh Mills shopping mall is reportedly fixing the potholes on surrounding roads.
Pittsburgh Mills shopping mall in Frazer is repairing its surrounding roads. Patch Management will be filling potholes around the mall through Thursday of this week.
According to Frazer Secretary Lori Ziencik, owner Namdar Realty of New York allocated only $20,000 towards this round of repairs. Last year, an estimate from Namdar and the township to fix all of the damaged roads surrounding the mall was more than $4 million.

Frazer police and the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office have launched a criminal investigation against Namdar. A civil lawsuit and code enforcement actions are also being pursued by the township. The roads are owned by Namdar, so local authorities are unable to complete the repairs.
In a search warrant, local police and the district attorney’s office allege Pittsburgh Mills businesses have paid a monthly road maintenance fee that was not being used towards its intended purpose. The warrant sought the account application, signature cards, statements, and records of deposits and withdrawals for the maintenance fee bank account held by Namdar.
Also in the search warrant, Frazer police noted that drivers will abruptly stop on the roads or hit potholes dead on during rainy conditions, mistaking them for puddles. In the civil lawsuit, Frazer claims that the road conditions are a public nuisance. The township issued a series of code violations that gave Namdar until Wednesday to take action to repair the roads.
Ziencik said, “We’re applying all legal pressure possible.”
Last week, Walmart paid to have a roughly 500-foot section of road behind the Michaels store at Pittsburgh Mills paved. Walmart operates a Sam’s Club at Pittsburgh Mills, and the delivery drivers had complained that the section of road was impassable.
Shoppers at Pittsburgh Mills have complained about the conditions of the roads for years. Since 2021, Frazer police have received 38 reports on the road conditions involving 30 flat tires, nine damaged rims, and seven tows. Two of the pothole incidents were so extreme they activated the vehicles’ crash notification sensors and sent emergency responders to the area.
Brandon Dewey of Apollo described driving around Pittsburgh Mills as “hell”. He is a daily delivery driver for Walmart and saw another driver hit a rut and blow out a tire on his route.
Cindy Downard of Lower Burrell said it is not uncommon for cars to swerve across the median to dodge the potholes and described driving there as a “battlefield”.
