The meals will be distributed to families on November 25, ahead of the holiday.
On November 25, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates will be distributing Thanksgiving meals to families in need alongside Giant Eagle and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
The Pittsburgh sports teams are participating for the fifth year in a row to feed families that need support from the community over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The event, #BurghProud, will be held at the Mazeroski Way cul-de-sac between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. so that up to 300 families in need can receive Thanksgiving meals.
The line will form along North Shore Drive at the corner of Mazeroski Way.
Families will be provided with a turkey, fresh produce, an apple pie, and a $15 Giant Eagle gift card.
“Special gifts” will also be distributed by the three sports teams.
The meals will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of two shares per vehicle.
“The Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins continue to work with area partners to support those in need and ensure access to resources for struggling community members and families. The three organizations recognize that now, more than ever, there is a need to help those experiencing food insecurity, especially around the holiday season,” wrote the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.
“As the need continues to grow, the Pirates are proud to stand with our community partners, local and state leaders, and the countless neighbors who are dedicated to building a strong region and a brighter, hunger-free future,” said Patrick Joyal, director of Public Affairs for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
