Russell Wilson, Mike Williams Led Steelers to Dramatic Victory Over Washington

Mike Williams made an immediate impact in his first game with the Pittsburgh Steelers, catching a 32-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson with just 2:22 left, securing a 28-27 victory over the Washington Commanders. The touchdown, which came on a critical third-and-9 play, gave the Steelers their fourth straight win, keeping them in possession of first place in the AFC North.

Williams, traded from the New York Jets days before the game, was targeted for the first time on that pivotal play. His catch capped off a performance in which Wilson threw three touchdown passes, despite completing only 50% of attempts. Wilson’s connection with Williams was a highlight of the game, but his earlier passes, including a 34-yard completion to George Pickens, helped keep Pittsburgh in the contest when it looked like the Commanders were in control.

Washington’s rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had an up-and-down game, completing only half of his 34 throws. Daniels showed flashes of brilliance, connecting with Terry McLaurin on a 54-yard play that set up one of Austin Ekeler’s two rushing touchdowns. The Commanders’ offense failed to maintain momentum while Pittsburgh’s defense stepped up when it mattered most.

The Commanders fall to 7-3, slipping from the top of the NFC East, while Pittsburgh’s victory keeps them ahead in the tight AFC North race.
