Following the first presidential debate, voters across America are looking ahead to the next opportunity to watch these candidates on stage. After both candidates accept the nomination at their conventions, ABC News will host the debate on September 10th at 9 p.m.
This will be the second of only two debates agreed to by Trump and Biden for this election. Both candidates decided to debate each other without the involvement of the Commission on Presidential Debates, which traditionally holds three debate meetings ahead of the presidential election.
President Biden faced wide criticism after the first debate for his incoherent responses to some questions and his appearing to lose his train of thought while answering. Afterwards, lawmakers and party donors struggled with having a nominee that might not withstand another term in office. Biden now faces another opportunity to show voters that he has the vitality required for another term, but democrats are not convinced this is the case.
Immigration, the economy, and abortion were notable topics during the first debate. These issues will likely resurface during the second, with the candidates’ answers being closely observed by voters across America.
Following the first debate, Trump’s support advanced in the polls. He is now polling 1.4 percentage points higher than President Biden, who lost support following his performance during the first debate.
A vice-presidential debate has been scheduled for late July or early August by CBS News. President Biden has accepted the invitation, but Trump has not yet named a running mate.
