The Steelers are rolling out of the gate this year, off to a 2-0 start after a win Sunday against the Denver Broncos by the score of 13-6. Following an 18-10 win in Atlanta last week, the Steelers have won their first two games of the season for the first time since 2020.
Fields, who took over quarterback duties after Russel Wilson suffered a calf injury prior to Week 1, has played well enough for the team to win their first two games, supported by a strong defense on the other side of the bench. Though his play has not been stellar, and he has made mistakes, Fields is expected to start Week 3 as the Steelers coaching staff wants to be sure Wilson is healthy before returning him to the field.
The Steelers moved the ball on the ground, gaining 141 yards on the rush, led by Najee Harris’s 69 yards on 17 carries. This effectiveness in the rush game allowed Pittsburgh to control the clock and keep their defense rested.
The team’s first touchdown of the year came through the air though, when Fields found TE Darnell Washington with a back shoulder throw in the endzone near the end of the first quarter, putting the visiting team ahead 7-0, which was the margin at the end of the game as well.

The defense also did its part to ensure a win again. Superstar T.J. Watt had his second sack of the season on Broncos QB Bo Nix. Downfield, defensive back Cory Trice Jr. made a clutch interception in the endzone to keep the Broncos from scoring six.
The Steelers currently sit atop the AFC North, with the Cleveland Browns in second at 1-1, and the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens both winless through two games. The Steelers return to Pittsburgh for their home opener at 1:00pm on Sunday, September 22nd against the Los Angeles Chargers.
