The president recently met with Israel’s prime minister to further the peace deal in Gaza.
After meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Florida on Monday to try to advance the ceasefire deal in Gaza, Trump issued firm warnings to Iran and Hamas.
The president threatened Iran with consequences, saying Iran “may be behaving badly” and suggesting it was trying to rebuild nuclear sites that the U.S. had struck earlier in the year.
“If it’s confirmed, look, there will be consequences. Consequences will be very powerful, maybe more powerful than last time,” said Trump.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in a social media post on Monday that his country’s response to “any aggressive action would be harsh and regrettable.” The response to Trump’s warning was swift.
Ali Shamkhani, adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, said that Iran’s response would go “beyond what the attacker expects.”
President Trump warned Hamas, urging the terrorist group to disarm in order to advance the fragile peace deal that has been brokered in the Middle East. Trump warned that the consequences for failing to disarm would be “horrible”, and that Hamas would have “hell to pay.”
Trump has been supportive of Israel’s efforts to pursue peace in the region as part of the ceasefire agreement. The president said that Israel has “lived up to the plan 100%”, and that he is not concerned “about anything Israel is doing.”
On the future of the West Bank, Trump said that he and Netanyahu do not fully agree but are still continuing to broach the topic.
“We have had a discussion, a big discussion, for a long time on the West Bank. And I wouldn’t say we agree on the West Bank 100%. But we will come to a conclusion on the West Bank,” said Trump following the meeting.
Netanyahu praised Trump for his partnership in ending the war in the Middle East.
“I’ll say it again and again and again, we’ve never had a friend like President Trump in the White House. It’s not even close. And I think you can judge that not merely the frequency of our meetings, but by the content and the intensity,” said the Israeli prime minister.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas went into effect in October after a two-year war following the October 7th attacks Hamas carried out against Israel.
President Trump has prioritized stabilizing the region and bringing peace following decades of conflict.
